Should I Be Using Beard Oil on My Beard?

Considering turning that stubble into a full-grown beard or wondering how to improve the beard you already have? Then you need to seriously look into using beard oil. By adding this product to your personal hair care lineup, you’ll have a much more well-rounded grooming routine.

What Is Beard Oil?

In the same way you would use conditioner to keep your hair healthier and softer, beard oil helps maintain the hair on your face. Beard oils are typically made from natural oils that provide helpful nutrients to your beard to make it look and feel better. You may find some that are in liquid form while others have a consistency closer to petroleum jelly.

Either way, there are some great benefits to routinely applying beard oil to your beard.

Benefits of Beard Oil

So, why should you consider using this stuff every day? Beard oil does a lot for your facial hair and for the skin underneath it. When you add it to your grooming routine, you can expect to see and feel these awesome results:

Adds shape: beard oil helps tame any of the wiry hairs that stick out from the rest of your beard, giving it more definition and giving you an overall neater appearance. And when you shape your beard better, you also make it appear fuller.

Moisturizes skin: one thing many guys find out quickly once they grow out their facial hair is that beards are prone to dandruff the same way the hair on your scalp is. When you moisturize your beard and the skin underneath it, you’ll be able to reduce your cases of the pesky flakes.

Makes your beard smell good: if you’re looking for another way to improve the way you smell, beard oil is a great option. Many beard products are scented with a pleasant blend of oils to give you even more confidence.

It’s important to note that you shouldn’t trust any product that claims to make your beard grow faster or thicker. While it can help prevent some straggler hairs from getting snagged while improving the shape of your beard, there’s no evidence that it actually boosts growth.

That being said, it’s still a great product to regularly use if you want a healthier beard.

How to Use Beard Oil

First, you’ll need to know which beard oil to get. We recommend MVRCK Beard Oil by John Paul Mitchell, American Crew Beard Serum or Gibs Alpha Male Beard, Hair & Tattoo Oil.

Ideally, you’ll want to apply your beard oil after showering and shampooing your beard or after washing your face. Add a few drops of beard oil to your palms and gently massage the oil into your beard, brushing downward. If you have a longer beard, you may need to add a couple extra drops and run a comb through it to get the oil distributed properly. After this, simply style your beard to your liking.

Applying the right beard oil on a regular basis will help ensure your beard remains in top condition and looks and feels great.
